Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A4 is a specific medical cannabis oil formulation developed by Breath of Life International Pharma Ltd (BOL Pharma). It consists of a plant-derived cannabis extract diluted in medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil, containing a high ratio of cannabidiol (CBD) to delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), specifically 34.8 mg of CBD and 1.7 mg of THC per 6-drop dose. The formulation is designed for sublingual administration. It has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety and pharmacokinetics and is being investigated for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and neuropathic pain. The mechanism of action involves the modulation of the endocannabinoid system, where CBD acts as a non-psychoactive cannabinoid with potential anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects, while THC acts as a partial agonist at CB1 and CB2 receptors.
