A8SGLP-1 is a recombinant analogue of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) where the alanine at position 8 is substituted with serine. This specific mutation is designed to reduce the binding and cleavage efficiency of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4), thereby extending the peptide's half-life and biological activity. In preclinical studies, it has been delivered via a live biotherapeutic platform using the probiotic bacterium *Lactococcus lactis* (LL-A8SGLP-1). This oral delivery system has demonstrated efficacy in db/db mouse models, showing significant improvements in glycemic control, reduction in fat mass, and decreased systemic inflammation without affecting overall body weight.
