AA98 is a monoclonal antibody targeting CD146, a cell adhesion molecule also known as melanoma cell adhesion molecule (MCAM) or MUC18. CD146 is a novel drug target implicated as a co-receptor of VEGF and is involved in angiogenesis and tumor progression. The AA98 antibody blocks CD146 functions, inhibiting tumor growth and angiogenesis. It has shown synergistic anti-tumor and antiangiogenic effects, especially in preclinical models of triple-negative breast cancer, and has been studied for uses in various tumors, multiple sclerosis, and age-related macular degeneration. The drug was developed originally by Prof. Yan Xiyun at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
