Overview

AAB-002 is an investigational biologic immunotherapy, specifically a humanized monoclonal antibody, developed by Elan Corporation in collaboration with Wyeth for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It was designed to target the beta-amyloid A4 protein and function as an amyloid precursor protein (APP) inhibitor. By binding to amyloid-beta peptides, AAB-002 aimed to prevent the aggregation of neurotoxic plaques and act as an immunostimulant to promote the clearance of existing amyloid deposits in the central nervous system. Part of Elan's second-generation amyloid-targeting pipeline, AAB-002 was intended to improve upon the efficacy and safety profiles of earlier candidates like AN-1792 and bapineuzumab (AAB-001). However, the development of AAB-002 was discontinued during early-stage clinical evaluation.
