AAPC-expanded donor gamma delta T cells is an investigational allogeneic cell-based biologic therapy being developed by the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. The therapy consists of donor-derived gamma delta T cells, primarily of the Vγ9Vδ2 subtype, which are expanded ex vivo using artificial antigen-presenting cells (AAPC) in the presence of zoledronic acid and interleukin-2 (IL-2). This immunotherapy is specifically designed to prevent relapse in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who are at high risk following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHCT). The expanded T cells exert MHC-independent antineoplastic cytotoxicity, allowing them to target and eliminate AML cells without the requirement for traditional HLA matching. The therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/1b clinical trials, where it is administered as a single infusion approximately 60 days post-transplant.
