Overview

AAV-DC-CTL is an autologous cell-based immunotherapy developed by Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital for the treatment of advanced (Stage IV) gastric cancer. The therapy utilizes a recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector to deliver the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) gene into a patient's dendritic cells (DCs) ex vivo. These engineered DCs are then used to stimulate and expand antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) from the patient's own immune system. When re-infused into the patient, these activated CTLs are programmed to recognize and eliminate tumor cells expressing CEA, a glycoprotein often overexpressed in gastric malignancies. This approach combines gene therapy and cellular immunotherapy to enhance the body's natural anti-tumor response.
