Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AAV-K20 (also known as AAV.k20) is an engineered adeno-associated virus (AAV) capsid variant derived from AAV9. Developed by researchers at Duke University, AAV-K20 was engineered via directed evolution and cross-species cycling of capsid libraries (including 7-mer peptide insertion in the variable region IV of the AAV9 capsid) to exhibit enhanced tropism and transduction efficiency for kidney tissues, particularly proximal tubule (PT) epithelial cells. It is being investigated as a gene delivery vector for the treatment of genetic kidney diseases, inherited kidney tubulopathies, and chronic kidney disease (CKD), as well as for applications in kidney transplantation.
