Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AAV-PLIN5 is an adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector designed to deliver and overexpress the perilipin 5 (PLIN5) gene. PLIN5 is a lipid droplet-associated protein that plays a critical role in regulating intracellular lipid metabolism, triglyceride lipolysis, and lipid droplet-mitochondria interactions. In preclinical research, AAV-PLIN5 is utilized as a gene delivery tool to investigate the therapeutic potential of PLIN5 overexpression in various disease models, including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), Alport syndrome, and type 2 diabetes. By restoring or enhancing PLIN5 levels, researchers aim to mitigate lipotoxicity, reduce endoplasmic reticulum stress, and improve mitochondrial function in target tissues such as the liver, kidneys, and pancreatic beta-cells.
