Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AAV-Ptprg-shRNA is an experimental adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector-based gene therapy tool designed to deliver short hairpin RNA (shRNA) targeting Receptor-type tyrosine-protein phosphatase gamma (PTPRG). Developed by researchers at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, it is used in preclinical research to knock down Ptprg expression in specific brain regions, such as the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). This knockdown is studied to elucidate the role of PTPRG in synaptic organization and its association with neuropsychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, where Ptprg loss has been linked to behavioral activation and hyperactivity phenotypes.
