AAV6-Postn-Cre is a recombinant gene therapy vector utilizing the Adeno-Associated Virus serotype 6 (AAV6) capsid to deliver the Cre recombinase gene. Expression of the transgene is driven by the Periostin (Postn) promoter, which is highly specific to activated fibroblasts and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). This tool is primarily employed in preclinical research using 'Cre-loxP' mouse models to achieve cell-type-specific genetic manipulation. By targeting myofibroblasts, researchers can delete or activate specific genes (such as NFIB or CCL5) to investigate their roles in the pathogenesis of organ fibrosis, including liver fibrosis associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and cardiac fibrosis.
