AAV8-TBGp-Cre is an adeno-associated virus serotype 8 (AAV8) gene therapy vector designed for hepatocyte-specific expression of Cre recombinase. It utilizes the liver-specific thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG) promoter to drive the expression of Cre, which allows for the conditional deletion of genes flanked by loxP sites (floxed) specifically in the liver. In research settings, it is frequently used to generate adult-onset, hepatocyte-specific knockout models to study liver metabolism and the progression of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). The AAV8 capsid provides high tropism for hepatocytes, ensuring efficient delivery and localized action within the liver upon systemic administration.
