Overview

AAV9-GFP is a recombinant adeno-associated virus serotype 9 (AAV9) vector engineered to express the green fluorescent protein (GFP), typically under the control of a ubiquitous promoter such as CMV or CAG. The viral capsid is derived from AAV serotype 9, while the inverted terminal repeats (ITRs) are from AAV2. This vector is widely used as a reporter tool in preclinical research to study gene delivery, transduction efficiency, and tissue targeting—especially in neuroscience and gene therapy studies. The mechanism of action involves delivery of the GFP gene into target cells via viral transduction; once inside, host cell machinery expresses GFP for visualization or tracking purposes. It does not have therapeutic intent but serves as a control or marker in experimental settings[1][2][5].
