Overview

This drug is a **combination therapy** consisting of **AB-729 (imdusiran)**, a nucleos(t)ide analogue (NA), and **pegylated interferon alfa-2a (PEG-IFN-α2a)**. AB-729 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic targeted at chronic hepatitis B virus (cHBV) infection, designed to reduce all HBV viral proteins and antigens, particularly hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), thereby helping reawaken the patient’s immune response[1][2][5]. It uses N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) conjugation for targeted delivery to hepatocytes and is administered subcutaneously. Nucleos(t)ide analogues inhibit HBV DNA polymerase, reducing viral replication. Pegylated interferon alfa-2a is an immunomodulatory cytokine that enhances the host's antiviral immune response. The combination regimen aims to achieve a functional cure of chronic hepatitis B by using **complementary antiviral and immunomodulatory mechanisms**[1][3][4][5]. Primary indication is **chronic hepatitis B**.
