AB-PA01 is an investigational bacteriophage cocktail therapy developed to target multidrug-resistant *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* infections. It consists of four specific lytic bacteriophages (Pa-193 and Pa-204 from the Myoviridae family; Pa-222 and Pa-223 from the Podoviridae family) that infect and lyse *P. aeruginosa* bacteria[7]. The drug is designed to penetrate and disrupt bacterial biofilms—aggregates that are highly resistant to antibiotics—and restore antibiotic sensitivity in drug-resistant strains[4][6]. Preclinical studies have shown broad activity against 70–89% of global clinical isolates of *P. aeruginosa*, including both sensitive and multidrug-resistant strains[5][6]. AB-PA01 has demonstrated significant reduction in biofilm biomass *in vitro* and efficacy comparable to meropenem in animal models[5][6]. The product was initially developed by AmpliPhi Biosciences (now Armata Pharmaceuticals), with additional development contributions from the Westmead Institute for Medical Research[2][4]. Clinical trials were planned for hospital-acquired pneumonia, ventilator-associated pneumonia, bacteremia caused by *P. aeruginosa* (notably relevant for cystic fibrosis patients), but development was discontinued before approval[2][4].
