Overview

**Ab-photoCORM** is an antibody–carbon monoxide releasing molecule (photoCORM) conjugate, representing a novel class of *antibody-drug conjugates* (ADCs) designed for the targeted, light-triggered delivery of cytotoxic carbon monoxide (CO) to cancer cells[2][6]. It is synthesized by conjugating a photoCORM (typically a metal carbonyl-based complex capable of releasing CO upon visible light activation) to a monoclonal antibody that recognizes specific cell surface antigens, such as those expressed on ovarian cancer cells (e.g. EpCAM, HCAM, GLUT3, VEGF)[2][6]. Activation by visible light results in localized CO release, inducing cytotoxicity primarily in antigen-expressing cells, and resulting in highly efficient, site-specific cell death. The cytotoxic effect derives mainly from CO-induced apoptosis, with possible additional contributions from antibody-mediated receptor blockade and immune system activation[2]. PhotoCORMs conjugated in Ab-photoCORM show stability in blood serum and enable precise spatiotemporal control of CO delivery, utilizing the specificity of the antibody for cell targeting[2][6].
