AB-SCF is a supercritical fluid extract derived from adlay bran (*Coix lacryma-jobi* var. *ma-yuen*), developed by Joben Bio-Medical. It is being investigated for its potential as a botanical drug or functional food for the treatment of hyperlipidemia and metabolic disorders. The extract is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, specifically oleic and linoleic acids, as well as ferulate phytostanol esters like 3-O-(trans-4-feruloyl)-β-sitostanol. Its mechanism of action involves the activation of the AMPK pathway (increasing p-AMPK) and lipoprotein lipase (LPL), while down-regulating fatty acid synthase (FAS), leading to reduced lipid accumulation, improved cholesterol metabolism, and increased bile acid excretion. Additionally, it exhibits antioxidant properties by modulating malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels in hepatic tissues.
