Overview

AB126 is an investigational neural stem cell-derived small extracellular vesicle (sEV) therapeutic developed by Aruna Bio. Utilizing a proprietary neural exosome platform, AB126 is designed to cross the blood-brain barrier to treat neurodegenerative and acute neurological conditions. Its primary mechanism involves the expression of the CCR2 receptor on the exosome surface, which allows it to bind and inhibit the chemokine CCL2 (monocyte chemoattractant protein-1), thereby mitigating the recruitment of pro-inflammatory immune cells to the site of brain injury. AB126 has demonstrated neuroprotective and regenerative properties in preclinical models of stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI). In January 2024, the FDA cleared an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for AB126 to enter Phase 1b/2a clinical trials for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke.
