Overview

AB359 is an investigational fusion protein immunotherapy developed by Asher Biotherapeutics for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It is a cis-targeted interleukin-2 (IL-2) therapy designed to selectively activate CD8+ effector T cells, thereby enhancing antiviral immune responses while minimizing off-target effects and toxicity associated with conventional IL-2 therapies. By focusing activation on CD8+ T cells, which are critical for viral clearance, AB359 aims to improve cure rates in chronic HBV patients compared to existing antiviral treatments that have limited efficacy and are only indicated for a subset of patients. The drug leverages Asher Bio’s proprietary platform that links an antibody targeting CD8 with a modified IL-2 cytokine, enabling precise immune cell engagement[1][3][5].
