AB598 is a fully human, Fc-silent immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) monoclonal antibody that specifically targets and inhibits CD39 (ectonucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolase-1, ENTPD1), a cell surface enzyme highly expressed in the tumor microenvironment. CD39 catalyzes the conversion of extracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP)—an immune-stimulatory danger signal—into adenosine monophosphate (AMP), which is further metabolized to immunosuppressive adenosine. By blocking CD39 activity, AB598 preserves ATP levels in the tumor microenvironment, promoting myeloid cell activation and enhancing antitumor immune responses. Preclinical studies show that inhibition of CD39 by AB598 leads to increased intratumoral ATP, reduced extracellular CD39 on tumor cells, and improved control of tumor growth. The drug is being developed as an immunotherapy for solid tumors both as monotherapy and in combination with chemotherapy or other immunotherapies[1][2][3][5][6].
