Ab68 is a potent, fully human monoclonal antibody fragment, specifically a VH domain, that targets the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Discovered by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh and developed in collaboration with Abound Bio, Ab68 was identified through the screening of large human antibody libraries. It functions by binding to a highly conserved epitope on the RBD, which sterically blocks the interaction between the virus and the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor, thereby neutralizing the virus and preventing cellular entry. Due to its small size (approximately 15 kDa) and high stability, Ab68 is amenable to alternative delivery routes such as inhalation, which may provide direct protection to the respiratory tract. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that Ab68 maintains strong neutralizing activity against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern, making it a versatile candidate for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.
