Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ab8** is a novel therapeutic agent derived from a tiny antibody component (nanobody or Vh domain) that potently neutralizes SARS-CoV-2 by binding to the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the viral spike protein, preventing interaction with the ACE2 receptor on host cells. Developed from a phage-display library, it demonstrated high efficacy in preclinical animal models, including complete protection against infection in hamsters and mice when administered prophylactically or therapeutically, outperforming some full-sized monoclonal antibodies due to its small size enabling better tissue penetration. It represents an early-stage candidate for COVID-19 prevention and treatment, though no further clinical development details are publicly available post-2020 preclinical reports.
