Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Abarceo Pharma is developing a preclinical small molecule inhibitor targeting VDAC1 (voltage-dependent anion channel 1) oligomerization for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The mechanism of action involves preventing VDAC1 molecules from clustering together (oligomerization), a process linked to mitochondrial dysfunction, ATP leakage, and neuronal cell death. By inhibiting this overexpression-induced oligomerization, the therapy aims to restore mitochondrial energy production and cellular health in neurodegenerative contexts. The program is currently in the discovery and preclinical proof-of-concept stage.
