abatacept + methotrexate

Abatacept + methotrexate is a combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune conditions such as psoriatic arthritis and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Abatacept is a selective costimulation modulator that works by binding to CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells (APCs), thereby blocking their interaction with CD28 on T-cells. This inhibits T-cell activation and reduces inflammation[5][6]. Methotrexate is a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) that inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, interfering with DNA synthesis and immune cell proliferation. The combination is often used when patients have not responded adequately to monotherapy with either agent alone[1][2][3]. Abatacept was developed by Bristol Myers Squibb.
