Overview

ABB C22 is a postbiotic ingredient developed for the management of gastrointestinal disorders, including chronic constipation and diarrhea-associated inflammation. As a postbiotic, it consists of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components that confer a health benefit on the host. ABB C22 is characterized by its anti-inflammatory properties, demonstrated by its ability to significantly reduce fecal inflammatory biomarkers such as calprotectin and lactoferrin in clinical settings. It is often studied as a component of synbiotic formulations, such as ABB C24, where it is combined with the dextran prebiotic NextDext (ABB i5) to modulate the gut microbiome, increase the abundance of beneficial bacteria like Coprococcus spp., and reduce methanogenic bacteria like Methanobrevibacter smithii. Clinical trials have evaluated its efficacy in elderly populations with diarrhea and in individuals suffering from constipation, showing improvements in stool consistency and gut microbial diversity.
