While its precise mechanism of action has not been officially disclosed in public databases, preclinical research and patent filings suggest that ABBV-CLS-628 acts as an inhibitor of Pregnancy-Associated Plasma Protein A (PAPP-A), a proteinase involved in regulating local bioavailability of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1)[4][7]. Inhibition of PAPP-A has shown significant benefits in animal models, including reduced renal cyst burden, decreased inflammation and fibrosis, improved kidney function, and extended lifespan[4][7]. The drug is administered intravenously and is currently advancing from preclinical to Phase 2 clinical trials for ADPKD[1][2][3][5].
