Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ABC-24F-116 is a monovalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine component developed by Merck Sharp & Dohme. It consists of the capsular polysaccharide of *Streptococcus pneumoniae* serotype 24F covalently linked to the CRM197 carrier protein, a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin. This specific conjugate is a key active ingredient in Merck's 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, V116 (Capvaxive). Serotype 24F was selected for inclusion in the V116 formulation because it is one of the eight serotypes unique to this vaccine that are not covered by other major licensed pneumococcal vaccines (such as PCV20). These serotypes were chosen based on their significant contribution to invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in adults, as identified by the CDC's Active Bacterial Core surveillance (ABCs) data. ABC-24F-116 works by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response, leading to the production of serotype-specific antibodies and the establishment of immunological memory against serotype 24F.
