ABC-5100 is a recombinant pentameric IgM antibody derived from nanobodies, developed by ApolloBio in collaboration with the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS). It is designed for the prevention and early treatment of COVID-19, including infections caused by various Omicron subvariants. The antibody targets conserved epitopes on the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein receptor-binding domain (RBD), effectively neutralizing the virus by blocking its interaction with the ACE2 receptor. Unlike traditional IgG antibodies, ABC-5100 utilizes the high-avidity pentameric IgM structure to target epitopes that are often overlooked by the immune system's standard IgG response. It is formulated for delivery via intranasal spray or nebulized inhalation to provide localized protection in the respiratory tract.
