Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Abexol is a natural product-based nutritional supplement developed by the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas (CNIC) in Cuba, in collaboration with Laboratorio Farmacéutico de Líquidos Orales (Medilip). It is composed of a purified mixture of six high-molecular-weight primary fatty alcohols (ranging from 24 to 34 carbon atoms) extracted from beeswax (*Apis mellifera*). The product is administered orally and is available in tablet (50 mg) and suspension formulations. Abexol functions primarily as an antioxidant, preventing the oxidation of lipids and proteins, and exhibits gastroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. It is approved in Cuba for managing oxidative stress, gastric conditions (such as gastritis and ulcers), and joint disorders (such as osteoarthritis). The product is part of the BioCubaFarma portfolio.
