Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ABI-110 is an investigational gene therapy developed by Avirmax Biopharma for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD) and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). It utilizes a proprietary engineered adeno-associated virus (AAV) capsid, specifically AAV2.N54, to efficiently deliver a therapeutic transgene directly to the macular retina via intravitreal injection. The goal of this approach is to provide durable, long-lasting expression of the therapeutic gene in retinal cells, potentially offering an ultra-long acting solution that addresses the genetic root causes of wet AMD and PCV. ABI-110 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2a clinical trials for safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy in these indications[1][2][3][5][8].
