Overview

ABI-1968 is a topical small molecule antiviral prodrug developed by Antiva Biosciences for the treatment of high-grade pre-cancerous lesions associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, including cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and anal intraepithelial neoplasia (AIN). As a lipid-conjugate prodrug of the acyclic nucleoside phosphonate cidofovir, ABI-1968 is designed to enhance intracellular delivery and conversion into its active diphosphate form, which inhibits viral processes and induces apoptosis in HPV-infected cells. The drug was formulated as a cream for localized application to the cervix or anal canal, providing a non-invasive alternative to surgical interventions like the Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP). While ABI-1968 advanced through Phase 1 clinical trials, Antiva Biosciences has since shifted its focus to a next-generation candidate, ABI-2280.
