Overview

ABI-202 is an investigational recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) gene therapy being developed by Avirmax for the treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). PDR is an advanced stage of diabetic eye disease characterized by the growth of abnormal new blood vessels (neovascularization) that can lead to severe vision loss, vitreous hemorrhage, and retinal detachment. ABI-202 utilizes Avirmax's proprietary AAV vector technology to deliver a therapeutic genetic payload directly to retinal cells, aiming to provide sustained therapeutic effect and reduce the treatment burden associated with frequent intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF agents. The program is currently in the IND-enabling stage of development.
