Overview

Abicin is a topical antifungal lacquer containing 30% natural coniferous resin derived from Norway spruce (*Picea abies*). Developed by Repolar Oy and evaluated in clinical trials by Helsinki University Central Hospital, it is indicated for the treatment of onychomycosis (toenail fungal infection). The resin contains various resin acids and lignans that exert fungistatic and fungicidal effects by disrupting the fungal cell wall and cell membrane of dermatophytes. It is applied daily to the affected nail for an extended period, typically nine months, to leverage the natural antimicrobial properties of the spruce resin.
