Overview

Abietyl-isothiocyanate (ABITC) is a novel small molecule isothiocyanate derivative investigated for its anti-cancer properties, particularly in endometrial cancer. It functions primarily by inducing the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which leads to selective cytotoxicity and apoptosis in cancer cells. ABITC has been shown to cause cell-cycle arrest in the G0/G1 and S phases and triggers pro-apoptotic signaling pathways, including the activation of caspase-8 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK/SAPK), while deactivating PARP-1. It also modulates growth factor signaling by altering epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) phosphorylation. Developed as a potential therapeutic agent, it demonstrates selective activity against endometrial cancer cell lines compared to other cancer types.
