Overview

Abiraterone is an orally active small molecule androgen biosynthesis inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). It works by selectively and irreversibly inhibiting the enzyme CYP17A1 (17 alpha-hydroxylase/C17,20-lyase), which is essential for androgen production in the testes, adrenal glands, and tumor tissue. By blocking this enzyme, abiraterone reduces testosterone and other androgen levels that stimulate prostate cancer cell growth[1][4][6]. SHR3162 is a novel agent under investigation; it has been studied in combination with other drugs such as apatinib mesylate or as monotherapy for mCRPC[3]. The combination of abiraterone with SHR3162 is being evaluated for its potential to improve outcomes in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer who have previously received treatments like docetaxel[8].
