Abiraterone acetate + prednisone + LHRH is a combination regimen used primarily in the treatment of prostate cancer, especially high-risk metastatic castration-sensitive and castration-resistant forms. Abiraterone acetate is a prodrug that inhibits CYP17 (17α-hydroxylase/C17,20-lyase), an enzyme critical for androgen biosynthesis, thereby reducing androgen production from all sources (testes, adrenal glands, and tumor tissue). Prednisone is administered to counteract mineralocorticoid excess caused by abiraterone’s mechanism. LHRH (luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone) agonists or antagonists are included to suppress testicular testosterone production via medical castration. This triple therapy further reduces androgen levels and blocks their action on prostate cancer cells[1][2][3][5][6][7].
