Overview

Abiraterone acetate tablets II (brand name Airuiji) is an improved oral small-molecule formulation of abiraterone acetate developed by Shengdiya, a subsidiary of Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals. As a prodrug, it is converted in vivo to abiraterone, which selectively inhibits the enzyme CYP17A1 (17α-hydroxylase/C17,20-lyase), a key enzyme in the androgen biosynthesis pathway. By blocking this enzyme, the drug suppresses androgen production in the testes, adrenal glands, and prostate tumor tissues. A distinguishing feature of this formulation is its enhanced bioavailability, allowing for a reduced daily dose of 300 mg compared to the 1000 mg dose required for the originator product (Zytiga). It is approved in China for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and newly diagnosed high-risk metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC), typically administered in combination with prednisone.
