Overview

ABL-SA (also known as ABL201) is a bispecific monoclonal antibody developed by ABL Bio for the treatment of Staphylococcus aureus infections, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The antibody is engineered to simultaneously target and neutralize two critical virulence factors: Alpha-hemolysin (Hla), a pore-forming toxin that causes host cell lysis and tissue damage, and Clumping factor A (ClfA), a surface protein that facilitates bacterial adhesion to host tissues and fibrinogen. By inhibiting these mechanisms, ABL-SA aims to reduce bacterial colonization, prevent toxin-mediated damage, and enhance the host immune system's ability to clear the infection. It has been investigated in preclinical models for severe systemic infections such as bacteremia and pneumonia.
