Overview
Abluminus NP is a polymer-free, sirolimus-eluting coronary stent system developed by Concept Medical Inc. for the treatment of coronary artery disease, including ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). It utilizes proprietary NanoActive technology to deliver sub-micron particles of sirolimus without the use of a polymer carrier, which is intended to reduce long-term inflammation and promote faster vascular healing. The device features a unique 'fusion coating' where the drug is applied to both the abluminal surface of the stent and the exposed parts of the delivery balloon, ensuring uniform drug distribution to the vessel wall and stent edges. Sirolimus acts as a cytostatic agent by inhibiting the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), thereby preventing smooth muscle cell proliferation and restenosis.
