Overview

ABN101 is a second-generation, hyperglycosylated interferon-β (specifically the R27T variant) being developed by Abion for the prevention and treatment of viral respiratory infections. As a 'biobetter' version of conventional interferon-β, it features enhanced stability and is formulated as a dry powder for inhalation, allowing for direct delivery to the respiratory tract. ABN101 acts as an interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR) agonist, stimulating both innate and adaptive immune responses to suppress viral replication in the early stages of infection. It is intended as a prophylactic measure for at-risk populations and as a potential intervention during pandemic outbreaks, such as COVID-19, to reduce disease severity and hospitalization.
