Overview

ABNCoV2 is a next-generation, capsid virus-like particle (cVLP)-based subunit vaccine developed for the prevention of COVID-19. It was initially developed by AdaptVac using proprietary cVLP technology and later licensed to Bavarian Nordic for further clinical development. The vaccine displays the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV‑2 spike protein on AP205 VLPs using SpyTag/SpyCatcher technology, enabling high-density and unidirectional antigen presentation. ABNCoV2 acts as an immunostimulant, inducing strong neutralizing antibody responses against multiple SARS-CoV‑2 variants including Wuhan, Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omicron. It is designed as a non-adjuvanted booster but has also been tested with adjuvants in early trials. Clinical studies have shown that it significantly boosts neutralizing antibodies in both seronegative and previously vaccinated individuals[1][5][6][7][8].
