abnobaVISCUM Fraxini

abnobaVISCUM Fraxini is an anthroposophic, plant-based medicinal product containing an aqueous extract of European mistletoe (Viscum album) that grows on the ash tree (Fraxinus). [2] It is developed and manufactured by Abnoba GmbH and is used as an adjunctive therapy in oncology. [8] The extract contains bioactive compounds such as mistletoe lectins and viscotoxins, which are believed to contribute to its therapeutic effects. [10] The mechanism of action is thought to involve both direct cytotoxicity against tumor cells, inducing apoptosis, and immunomodulatory effects. [6, 14] These immunomodulating properties include the stimulation of immune cells like T-cells and Natural Killer (NK) cells and the enhanced secretion of cytokines. [9] Clinically, abnobaVISCUM Fraxini is being investigated for various cancers. A phase Ib/IIa trial is evaluating its use as an intravesical instillation for superficial bladder cancer. It has also been studied for subcutaneous administration in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. [14] Common side effects are typically mild and include localized inflammatory reactions at the injection site and fever. [2]
