Overview

AbnobaVISCUM M is a specific formulation of mistletoe (Viscum album) extract, derived from plants grown on apple (Mali) host trees. [9] It is developed and produced by the German pharmaceutical company Abnoba GmbH and is part of their AbnobaVISCUM product line of anthroposophical medicines. [9] The drug is a biologic preparation, available as a solution for injection, and its primary active components are mistletoe lectins. [1, 3] These lectins exert anti-cancer effects through both direct cytotoxicity and immunomodulation. [3] The direct mechanism involves inducing apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells by inhibiting protein synthesis and activating caspases. [1, 2, 3] The immunomodulatory effects include the stimulation and increased activity of immune cells such as natural killer (NK) cells and T-helper cells. [3] AbnobaVISCUM M is used as a complementary or adjuvant therapy for various malignant and benign tumor diseases. [4, 10]
