Drug intelligence / Profile preview
abnobaVISCUM Mali is an anthroposophical medicinal product used for extended treatment in tumor diseases. It contains mistletoe extract from apple tree mistletoe (Viscum album growing on Malus trees). The product is manufactured by Abnoba GmbH in Niefern-Öschelbronn, Germany. The medication is available in different strengths (20 mg, 2 mg, 0.2 mg, 0.02 mg) and potency levels (D6, D10, D20, D30). It's administered as a subcutaneous injection, preferably near the tumor or metastases. According to anthroposophical understanding, abnobaVISCUM stimulates the formative and integrative forces to dissolve and reintegrate independent growth processes in malignant and benign tumor diseases. It's also used as prophylaxis against relapse following tumor surgery and in defined precancerous conditions. The product is produced through a special extraction process that preserves the natural liposomes containing fat-soluble components including chlorophyll, which gives abnobaVISCUM Mali 20 mg its characteristic yellow-green color. The manufacturing process involves pressing juice from mistletoe leaves, stems, and berries harvested in summer and winter, followed by extraction in an aqueous extracting agent under exclusion of air according to a patented process. Clinical studies have shown that abnobaVISCUM is the only mistletoe product for which mistletoe lectins are detectable in the serum following subcutaneous injection. It has also been confirmed not to impair the activity of cytochrome P450, making it compatible with chemotherapy. The medication is typically administered three times weekly, starting with the lowest strength (0.02 mg) and gradually increasing until the optimal dose is achieved. Side effects may include local inflammatory reactions at the injection site, fever, flu-like symptoms, and in rare cases allergic reactions.
