Abnormal cannabidiol (Abn-CBD) is a synthetic regioisomer of cannabidiol (CBD), first described in 1974. Unlike most other cannabinoids and CBD itself, Abn-CBD does not produce psychoactive or sedative effects. It acts as a vasodilator and lowers blood pressure. In preclinical studies it has been shown to induce cell migration and proliferation as well as mitogen-activated protein kinase activation in microglia. Its pharmacological actions are mediated primarily through GPR18 and possibly GPR55 receptors—sites distinct from the classical cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptors. Abn-CBD has demonstrated beneficial immunomodulatory effects in animal models of obesity-related metabolic disorders such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), reducing inflammation in the liver, pancreas and adipose tissue[1][6]. It is neurobehaviorally inactive but increases phosphorylation of protein kinases and promotes endothelial cell migration[2]. The compound is used mainly for research purposes.
