ABO- and Rh-compatible whole blood is a transfusion product consisting of un-fractionated human blood that has been matched to the recipient's ABO and Rhesus (Rh) blood group systems. In the clinical trial conducted by Xijing Hospital, this intervention is utilized for the emergency resuscitation of patients suffering from hemorrhagic shock due to trauma or gastrointestinal bleeding. Unlike component therapy, which separates blood into red blood cells, plasma, and platelets, whole blood provides these elements in their natural physiological ratios, aiming to improve oxygen delivery and hemostatic function while reducing the volume of anticoagulants and additives administered. The trial evaluates its efficacy, timeliness, and safety compared to standard massive transfusion protocols and low-titer group O whole blood.
