ABO1108 is a lyophilized messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine candidate developed by Suzhou Abogen Biosciences for the prevention of herpes zoster (shingles). The vaccine encodes a structurally optimized version of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) glycoprotein E (gE), which is the primary target for neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses. Utilizing Abogen's proprietary nucleoside base modification technology and formulated with lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) containing a domestically developed ionizable lipid, ABO1108 is unique for its advanced lyophilized formulation. This freeze-dried state allows the vaccine to remain stable at standard refrigeration temperatures (2-8°C), providing a significant logistical advantage over conventional liquid mRNA vaccines that require ultra-cold storage. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity in adults aged 40 years and older.
