Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Abobotulinumtoxin A (Espad Pharmed) is a botulinum toxin type A product developed by Espad Pharmed Darou Co. for the correction of moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines). As a biologic neurotoxin, it works by cleaving the SNAP-25 protein within motor nerve endings, which prevents the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. This inhibition of neuromuscular transmission results in temporary muscle relaxation, smoothing the appearance of facial wrinkles. The product is currently being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials in Iran to establish non-inferiority in efficacy and safety compared to the reference product, Dysport (Ipsen).
