Overview

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) and Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) are both injectable neuromuscular blockers derived from botulinum toxin type A. They work by blocking nerve signals to muscles, causing temporary muscle relaxation. Both products are used for cosmetic purposes to reduce facial wrinkles and for therapeutic purposes to treat various medical conditions including cervical dystonia, muscle spasticity, and other disorders characterized by abnormal muscle contractions. While they contain the same active ingredient (botulinum toxin type A), they are manufactured differently with different potencies and potentially different durations of effect. The potency units between these products are not interchangeable, with a typical conversion ratio of 2.5:1 (Dysport:Botox).
