Overview
ABOUT FACE BY NATURE is an investigational injectable soft-tissue filler being developed by Silk Medical Aesthetics using a composite biomaterial based on Activated Silk, a purified silk fibroin protein dissolved in saline, combined with crosslinked hyaluronic acid and lidocaine. It is intended for aesthetic soft-tissue augmentation, including treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds, as well as lip enhancement and acne scar correction. Mechanistically, its effect is primarily structural rather than receptor-mediated: the silk fibroin and crosslinked hyaluronic acid matrix provides volume, tissue support, viscoelasticity, and optical properties designed to improve durability and handling relative to conventional hyaluronic acid fillers, while lidocaine provides local anesthetic tolerability during injection. The product has been described as a medical device or biologic rather than a traditional pharmaceutical small molecule, and it received FDA Investigational Device Exemption approval in January 2022 for a pivotal clinical study.
