Overview

ABP-6118 is a small molecule chemical drug under preclinical development as an inhibitor of xanthine oxidase (XO), also known as xanthine dehydrogenase. Its primary mechanism of action is the inhibition of XO, which plays a key role in purine metabolism by catalyzing the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine and then to uric acid. By inhibiting XO, ABP-6118 aims to reduce uric acid production and is being developed for the treatment of gout—a metabolic disease characterized by elevated levels of uric acid leading to joint inflammation. The drug is being developed by Hangzhou Atom Therapeutics Co., Ltd., with its main indication currently listed as gout[1][3][4].
